Painting is my refuge, my safe place I absolutely run to, when things go crazy in my life.

We all have our safe places or a refuge, either can be a loved one or a corner in your home to just be by yourself. To me it’s painting, it’s like writing a diary, where I can just pour my heart out, truly like the famous quote by Picasso, ‘Painting is just another way of keeping a diary’.

This painting is so special to me as it’s a place from my childhood. I travelled through time during the process of this painting. This huge Plumeria used to be fully bloomed with flowers and I remember picking these flowers and collecting them in my frock as a kid. The fragrance still so fresh in my mind. To this day this tree stands strong, visiting this place again after years was a feeling I simply can’t put in words.

It’s the nostalgia I love to seek refuge in at times too.

This is an acrylic on canvas painting part of the series living memories.
